The Civil Rights Movement, 1945-1968

Module code: HS3627

This module explores the ways in which the civil rights movement emerged in the decades after the Second World War. You’ll be looking at the development of African American protest up until the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr in 1968, considering the key events and historiography which make up this movement. Engaging with the key debates relating to the US civil rights movements, and using a range of primary and secondary sources to support your own work, will be central to the module.
