Challenging Perspectives: Conflict and Relations in French Culture

This module will introduce you to a range of artists and productions who have challenged the expectations and traditions of their times. The narratives studied (literary, theatrical, filmic or musical) all question social and political norms and the complexity of human relationships and choices at a time of conflict or tension. A variety of marginal and transgressive characters, spaces and representational techniques will be considered with a particular attention paid to how they defy traditional perspectives, confront social stereotypes and convey alternative political messages.
