Heritage Skills

Module code: AR2036

Heritage is a growth industry in the UK and worldwide and there are many different, challenging careers opening up.  Heritage is an exciting and dynamic field, and offers you the chance to take all your archaeology and ancient history knowledge and apply it in the real world.

In this module we give you the chance to gain core heritage knowledge and professional skills. Most of your time on this module will be spent working with heritage organisations in Leicester producing new heritage and archaeology resources. You will be working in small teams under the guidance of a heritage professional, and will perhaps produce educational materials, or a new walking trail, or the material for a new heritage app. We will have sessions on topics such as working in small groups, how to include placement experience in your CV, and how to give effective presentations. There will also be plenty of time to work on your project with your team and have the course lecturers on hand to answer questions and talk through issues. Some lectures will be devoted to exploring just what heritage is, and why it is so important in the modern world. This module will be invaluable if you think you want a career in heritage.
