Course description

Joining current Leicester MBA students on this module you will gain a solid understanding of big data sources, their management and manipulation in business contexts - a key learning outcome for modern professionals. Our interactive multimedia study guide and recorded online lectures will enable you to grasp contemporary data analysis theory conceptually and critically.
You'll delve into the world of information systems that support decision-making processes, gaining a comprehensive understanding of their roles and impact. Our online seminars and learning resources offer you an engaging platform where you'll learn to analyse a big data set and effectively communicate your findings to a business audience. Through exploring intelligent business systems, you will gain a critical understanding of the relevant theories and techniques and this knowledge will equip you to analyse contemporary issues and devise solutions. You will be provided with a robust methodology for the interrogation, utilization and presentation of data. Through a range of practical exercises, you will learn how to formulate, justify and defend an appropriate methodology, a crucial skill in the field of data analysis.
Teaching and learning
Each week you will either view a two-hour recorded lecture or participate in a one/two hour live online seminar. These will be further supported by our online study guide, additional learning materials and online forums with tutors and peers. Online teaching takes place via Blackboard, which also contains your learning materials. Live seminars are undertaken in small groups and scheduled so that they are convenient for different time zones. Due to the global nature of the programme, your seminars may be scheduled within what constitutes your normal working hours.
This module is assessed by a group assignment and an individual assignment.
As a distance learning student you will have access to the University Library's electronic service, the Leicester Digital Library, which includes a large number of e-journals and e-books.
Entry requirements
Applicants must be alumni of the Masters of Business Administration programme at the University of Leicester.
