Biological Sciences Applied to Nursing
Module code: NU1003
Knowledge of biological sciences is crucial to the advancement and practice of nursing, and this module will equip you with the indispensable understanding of the human body. We will explore the anatomy and physiology of key body systems – such as the circulatory, endocrine, renal/urinary, reproductive etc. and we will discuss these in relation to health and illness across the lifespan.
We will also consider the application of anatomy and physiology to nursing across the lifespan of the patient – brought about by the normal ageing process of the patient, and you will be able to demonstrate application of this knowledge to key practical nursing skills, as well as apply the principles of medication calculation. There are opportunities to visit the Dissection Room to see anatomical dissections.
This module will be taught through a varied selection of lectures, seminars and workshops, problem based, case studies, online activities and flipped learning.
