Managing Resources in the Art Museum
Module code: MU7031
Module Outline
This module explores the diversity of resources available to art galleries. It considers resources internal to the gallery institution-people, money, infrastructure and collections, and it considers resources and contexts external to the gallery-the political contexts and policy frameworks within which galleries operate. For each internal resource, we will look at how it is acquired, and how and why it can be developed. For each external political or policy context, we will look at how these affect the gallery and how these can be managed effectively for the realisation of the gallery's mission. As the focus of a gallery changes over time, a particular resource, political context or policy framework may become more prominent than another, leading to tension if other areas are left neglected. This module explores the integration of resources, contexts and policies to provide a balanced approach to their use and management.
