Discourse Analysis

Module code: EN7315

This module introduces various approaches and techniques for collecting, analysing and interpreting discourse – that is, the ordinary stretches of language (e.g. advertisements, online chat, face-to-face conversation) that we encounter on a daily basis. You'll be introduced to theories and issues in genre and register, conversation analysis, pragmatics, critical discourse perspectives and computer-mediated discourse. Plentiful opportunities will be provided to apply your understanding to everyday examples of discourse.
