Dynamics of Mechanical Systems

Module code: EG7060

In this module you will learn to apply the fundamental concepts of Newtonian mechanics in order to gain a sound understanding of the dynamics of mechanical systems. You will be introduced to a broad range of analytical tools with which to analyse, model and design complex mechanical systems. At the end of the module you should be able to understand how to apply analytical tools and methods to mechanical systems from a broad range of application domains: e.g. robotics, aircraft/spacecraft/vehicles dynamics, etc.

Subjects studied will be selected from the following list of topics:

  • Kinetics of rigid bodies in planar motion
  • Kinematics of rigid bodies in three dimensions
  • Kinetics of rigid bodies in three dimensions
  • Euler’s equations of motion for a rigid body
  • Vibrations of two degree-of-freedom systems
  • Lagrangian equations
