The contemporary policing landscape is significantly changing. Police organisations are subject to heightened scrutiny and pressures, police organisations across the globe are required to meet unprecedented and increasingly complex demands. This module explores the contemporary challenges and debates in policing from a criminological perspective. A central theme of this module is the relationship between the police and social order. In the lectures and workshops, we critically examine the response of the police to contemporary crime and social problems, and the impacts of this response on individuals and communities. By taking this module, you will develop an in-depth, critical understanding of the role of the police in responding to crime and disorder.
