The knowledge and expertise of our staff spans a range of historical periods from all over the globe.

Dr Svenja Bethke

Lecturer in Modern European History
I research the history of Modern Europe, focusing on the Holocaust and Jewish history. I also teach modules on clothing and fashion history across 19th and 20th century Europe.

Dr Zoe Knox

Associate Professor of Modern Russian History
I research 20th century Russia and religious history in modern Europe. My modules explore the themes of Church, State and Belief and the rise and fall of the Soviet Union.

Dr Angela Muir

Lecturer in British Social and Cultural History
My research interests include the social and cultural history of sex, gender, poverty, medicine and the body in early modern, 18th and 19th century England and Wales.

Dr Prashant Kidambi

Associate Professor in Colonial Urban History
My research and teaching focuses on the interface between British imperialism and the history of modern South Asia. I also look at the place of sport in the making of identities.
