University of Leicester calls for research leaders of tomorrow to apply for prestigious fellowship

The University of Leicester is inviting researchers and innovators to apply for a fellowship that will help them develop into the leaders of tomorrow.

The UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship programme is aimed at outstanding early career researchers or academics who are transitioning to, or establishing, independence. Applicants can be from within the University of Leicester, or from outside the institution.

The Fellowships support talented people in universities, businesses, and other research and innovation environments. They also allow universities, research institutes, independent research organisations and businesses to develop their most talented early career researchers and innovators or to attract new people to their organisations, including from overseas.

Fellows receive funding over four years, both to tackle ambitious and challenging research and innovation, and to develop their career as research leaders. Funding can be extended for up to a further three years to support long-term focus on a particular area of research or innovation and continued career development. A typical award value is around £1.5m for the initial four years.

Professor Richard Thomas, Deputy Pro-Vice Chancellor for Research and Enterprise and Dean of the Doctoral College, said: “We are investing heavily in our talent pipeline, securing and supporting our research leaders of the future. We welcome applications from exceptional candidates with a track record of high-impact research in all disciplines from the UK or internationally.”

Because of demand management, the University can only submit four applications. The deadline for applications for the internal stage is midday on Monday 8 April 2024.

Internal applicants can access the application form on Sharepoint, external applicants should email doctoralcollege@le.ac.uk for a copy.
