Evening workshop for finance managers at the University of Leicester, Tuesday 5 February

  • Tuesday 5 February 2019, 5.00 to 7.00pm
  • Leicester Innovation Hub, 128 Regent Road, LE1 7PA
  • Food and light refreshments provided

The University of Leicester is holding an evening workshop for finance managers on the skills to innovate business models using ‘design thinking’ and ‘pivoting’. It will be a fast-paced, hands-on session where attendees will learn by doing.

Dr Sukanlaya Sawang, Associate Professor in Small Business, Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the University of Leicester, said: “Sometimes the finance team get left out of the fun business planning sessions. Finance is the cornerstone of any business but they don’t always get invited to play in the sandpit of ideas. Clever business models do things that finance managers will love, like create automatically recurring revenues and reduce costs by getting the customer to do the marketing for them. When the business model is right, there are no limits to growth.”

Attendees will explore the exciting case study of a Leicestershire vineyard. The award-winning Walton Brook vineyard has 10 acres of vines on gently sloping, south-facing land near Burton on the Wolds.

The workshop will be facilitated by Dr Sukanlaya Sawang and Tobias Gould. Sukanlaya is an Associate Professor in Small Business, Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the University of Leicester. She is an expert in innovation and collaborative research. Tobias is the Business Innovation Fellow at the University of Leicester with specialisms in market research, start-ups and social innovation.

The workshop is free for established small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) based in Leicester or Leicestershire. The Innovation Hub has secured funding from the European Union to make this event happen, and to support businesses in Leicester and Leicestershire to innovate, develop and grow.
