Professional, Ethical and Legal Challenges in Nursing

Module code: NU4012

Nurses face many difficult challenges in their day to day work – these can encompass professional, legal and ethical challenges. What does a nurse do when a patient’s family insists that the nurse not share the truth of the patient’s condition to them? What about a patient that refuses treatment, or unsafe practice by a colleague? We will debate these ideas, considering them critically and developing an awareness of the political landscape of healthcare.

This module will be taught through a series of lectures and seminars, and you will be assessed through a case study critically examining and applying a legal or professional issue in clinical practice.
