About the University of Leicester

Emeritus Professor Peter Harvey

We have learned the sad news that Professor Peter Harvey, Emeritus Professor in Geomathematics in the School of Geology, Geography and the Environment passed away on 10 January 2024. 

Peter moved to Leicester University from Nottingham in 1989, and along with Professor Mike Lovell set up the Leicester University Borehole Research Group to investigate the generation and use of downhole measurements. During his time at the University of Leicester Professor Harvey was a major force on gaining research contracts from the Ocean Drilling Programme (ODP) and NERC. 

Upon retirement in 2004, he moved back to his native Cornwall and devoted his time to learning the Cornish language and supporting cultural activities. In recognition of this in 2010 he was admitted as a Bard to the Cornish Gorsedh, choosing his bardic name of Godhonyth an Nor - Earth Scientist.
