Guaranteed spaces for medical and healthcare students announced

The University of Leicester today confirmed that it is the first university to guarantee spaces for every medical and healthcare student that has achieved their grades, had selected the University as their firm choice and is not placed at another university – ensuring that all students who made Leicester their first choice can begin their university education this year, and not defer their place.

Professor Nishan Canagarajah, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Leicester, said: “Universities play a fundamental role in shaping the next generation - at the University of Leicester we embody the ethos of opportunity for all and want to give students the platform to succeed.

“This is why we are guaranteeing a space for every medical and healthcare student that has met their grades, selected the University as their firm choice for this year, and is not holding a place with another university, and are the first UK university to do so. In a time of great uncertainty we are putting our students first by ensuring they can take up their university place as planned. Although this requires additional work for the University we believe this is a fair outcome for this cohort and future cohorts who shouldn’t see places reduced due to the current situation.

“This is fantastic news for students across the country at a time when the country needs medical and healthcare professionals more than ever.”
