Data and statistics
At the University of Leicester the health, safety and well-being of our community is always our priority.
We also want to keep you as informed as possible during these uncertain times. The University will therefore collect and share information regarding active COVID-19 cases within the University.
The University of Leicester has launched a programme to screen staff and students for COVID-19 regularly, as part of a drive to keep our staff, students and community safe.
This screening programme is different to the NHS-run testing programme – the University is screening staff and students who do not have any COVID-19 symptoms and are feeling well.
By doing this, we are seeking to detect the presence of the virus in people without symptoms, and so prevent its spread.
As the University is one of the first in the UK to run the programme, it may therefore mean our case reporting numbers will be higher than other universities because of our pro-active approach.
Please note: This data is updated on weekdays. There may be a variance to the previous confirmed cases and self-isolation figures. This page will be updated to show the latest information available. This data is not confirmed cases from the University's screening programme.
From 22 October we have changed the reporting start date of cases to reflect the “start of isolation” as reported by our staff and students. We are also updating the previous 14 days of data to reflect the new approach.
Total case numbers are broken down as follows:
|Date||New staff cases||New student cases|
