What we’re doing (University activity)

Operational

The University of Leicester proudly marked a significant milestone on the evening of Tuesday 26 September 2023 with the inaugural Human Library event. The ground-breaking initiative served as a catalyst for meaningful dialogue, enhanced understanding, and the cultivation of empathy within our diverse community of citizens. The Human Library, in its essence, embodies the concept of a "library of people." Each individual who lent their story from our metaphorical bookshelf represented a segment of our society.

Teaching

The School of Sociology offers a module on Race, Ethnicity and Racisms in Britain (SY1025). It uses the city of Leicester as its starting point and the module aims to develop a foundational understanding of the sociology of race and ethnicity as social constructs, and as one lens through which to better understand social inequalities in late-modern Britain.

Research

Dr Zovanga Kone explores whether migration can be managed in a way that is beneficial to all. By investigating the public consciousness following Brexit and searching for the truth behind the headlines, Dr Kone hopes to understand the migrant experience and contribute to better global management of migration.
