Mature students

It is never too late to get back into education. The University of Leicester welcomes students of all ages and from all walks of life. Our mature students bring invaluable experience to our student body.

You might already have A-levels, BTECs or other qualifications from attending school or college. In this case it is a good idea to email the Department you are interested in studying with and ask them if you need to top up your qualifications or if you are ready to apply for the course. If you don’t have the right qualifications, don’t panic. Many local colleges offer one-year full-time Access to Higher Education courses accepted on almost all of our degrees and foundation years.

If you are currently studying at a college, you will have support from your tutors on the application process and other important aspects of getting into university.

Regardless of your route in, your work and life experience is an important factor to take into account when you are writing your personal statement, attending any interviews and meeting tutors and other students.
