Alumni Association Committee
Have your voice heard by joining the Alumni Association Committee, a channel of communication between the University and the Alumni Association. The Committee is elected annually and meets quarterly.
The Committee comprises of a Chair, ten full members, and up to five co-opted members (one of whom is a representative of the Students’ Union, usually the current SU President). Additional persons may also attend the meetings as guests of the Committee.
All University of Leicester alumni are eligible to join as members of the Alumni Association Committee, however please be aware that all seats on the Alumni Association Committee are currently occupied.
The Annual Alumni Meeting
The Annual Alumni Meeting (formerly known as the Alumni Annual General Meeting or AGM) is open to all University of Leicester alumni. At the Annual Alumni Meeting, the Committee will report back to alumni on activities during the last 12 months, an update on philanthropic funds managed jointly by the University and Alumni Committee will be given and alumni will be invited to vote on members of the Committee who are standing for re-election.
Outside of the formal agenda of the Annual Alumni Meeting, the meeting is a great opportunity for alumni to meet and catch-up with one another, and to pose any questions they have to the Alumni Committee and/or Alumni Relations Team.

Your Alumni Association Committee
Chair
Mr Martin Cullen (LLB Law, 2006) [2025]
Martin is a Law Graduate who was the President of the Students' Union from 2005 - 2007. He has been a member of the Alumni Association Committee since 2005, and was elected Chair of the Alumni Association at the Alumni Annual Meeting in October 2022.
In his role as Chair, Martin leads the Alumni Association and its Committee, as well as liaising with University staff to ensure the Alumni voice is heard. He also sits on University Council.
Outside of his Alumni duties, Martin is an entrepreneur working in the Midlands, with his main role being that of Managing Director of Rockstar Marketing Group Ltd, an events and marketing company he started in 2007. He is also a Director of a buy-to-let property company, Rockstar Property Group, as well as being involved with a number of local charities. Martin lives in Leicester with his wife Sarah, and their recently arrived twin daughters Mia and Ava.

Vice Chairs
Mr Dan Flatt (BA Modern Languages with Management with a year abroad, 2012) [2024]
Dan Flatt, originally from Milton Keynes, graduated with a BA in Modern Languages with Management from the University in July 2012. Dan studied abroad at Université Sorbonne Nouvelle-Paris 3 in France and Universidad de Zaragoza in Spain.
Upon graduation, he was elected President of the Students’ Union from 2012 - 2014. Following his time in the Students’ Union, Dan began working in Student Engagement at the University of Nottingham. In 2015, Dan returned to the University of Leicester and currently works Associate Head of College Student Recruitment and Marketing, supporting academic schools with their student recruitment activity.
In previous roles at the University, Dan has travelled extensively around the UK and Europe encouraging students to study at University of Leicester. Dan also holds the position of trustee of the Ashby-de-la-Zouch Endowed Schools Foundation and has previously held voluntary positions in the Higher Education Liaison Officer Association.
Outside of his career, Dan is married to another former Leicester Modern Languages student, Anna (née Graves). They still live in Leicestershire with their son, Leo and their two black cats. Dan enjoys travelling, running (not very fast!) and baking He is a season ticket holder at Milton Keynes Dons.
Dr Lukas M. Stahl Esq. (European Mgt and Employment Law LLM, 1997) [2023]
Dr Lukas M. Stahl is an Austrian-American attorney admitted to the State Bar of California, the U.S. Court of International Trade in New York and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington, DC. He is licensed as a corporate and investment adviser pursuant to Austrian and European Law. Dr Stahl studied law, economics and business administration in Austria, Italy, United Kingdom and the United States and graduated with Master of Laws degrees from the University of Leicester in European Law and from the University at Buffalo Law School, SUNY, in U.S. Law.
He also holds an MBA from the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business and a post-graduate Certificate in Taxation from the Fordham Graduate School of Business. For his work Capital 2.0 – Capital Formation and Legal Risk in a New Global Economic Order From FIAT to EXIT he was awarded a PhD in Law from the University of Westminster in the United Kingdom.
During the past 30 years he (co-)founded, managed or advised companies in Europe and the United States. Dr Stahl also serves on the board of three non-profit foundations in New York as president of the American Friends of the University of Leicester Inc., as secretary general of the Global Center for Law and Finance Inc. and the Transatlantic Climate Alliance Inc. Prior to founding his own law firm, Stahl Law, he helped build the European Practice of a leading securities law firm in Los Angeles and New York.
Today, he manages the Stahl Law Corporation out of Santa Monica, CA and New York, NY, and Upper East Side Ventures Inc., NY, which invest into Emerging Growth Companies expanding their business in the United States.
Committee Members
Dr Robert Fairbrother (BSc Physics and Mathematics, 1953; PGCE, 1954) [2023]
Having graduated from Leicester in 1953 with a degree in Physics and Mathematics, Robert obtained a PGCE in 1954, served as an education officer in the Royal Air Force, taught in schools in Hertfordshire and Leicestershire before being appointed as a lecturer and then senior lecturer at King’s College, University of London. Robert played rugby football and was a member of the 1953 team that represented English Universities v Scottish Universities.
Robert and his wife have filmed pupils doing art projects in Primary Schools in Croydon. He tries to keep a large garden under control, is a member and past chairman of a local PROBUS club, and a member of a Moviemakers group.
Dr Elizabeth Blood (PhD History, 2023) [2024]
Elizabeth Blood is a heritage specialist who has worked in conservation, museums and the historic environment. She is currently a freelance heritage specialist and was previously Research Associate at the University of Leicester uncovering the story of the University's origins and its history.
She has worked for Historic England, Leicestershire County Council, the Battlefields Trust and the National Memorial Arboretum. Her PhD thesis examined how First World War memorials had been changed over the past century. She has a keen ongoing interest in memorials, tombs, historic buildings and conservation and is a trustee/council member for two memorial conservation charities.
Mr Charles du Couëdic de Kerérant (LLB Maîtrise in English and French Law, 2014) [2024]
Charles du Couëdic de Kerérant graduated from the University of Leicester and Strasbourg in 2014 with joint subject degree in English and French Law (Bachelor of Laws, Licence en Droit, Maîtrise en Droit). He then studied for a Master of Laws in Business Law (DJCE) at the University of Strasbourg in 2015. He took an LL.M in Legal Practice (LPC) at the University of Law in 2016.
Charles is Lecturer in Private Law at Université Paris (London) and a teaching fellow at the Faculty of Law of the Université de Strasbourg.
During his time at Leicester he was a Student Representative at School, College and University Level as well as Union Officer. He enjoys cooking, sailing and diving (that could be guessed from his French name from Brittany).
He is a reserve Officer of the French Navy (Marine Nationale). He is also a farmer in the south of France and has received the commendation of Knight of the Order of Agricultural Merit.
Mr Simon Green (LLB Law, 2005; MA Diplomatic Studies, 2007) [2024]
Simon graduated from the University in 2005 with an LLB Law degree. He was then elected Vice President of the Students' Union and served a one-year term before undertaking an MA in Diplomatic Studies.
After leaving Leicester, Simon went on to work for a Member of Parliament. He later undertook further study and obtained the Chartered Insurance Institute's Diploma in Financial Planning and is now a Financial Planning Consulting, working with individuals, trusts and businesses. He is currently employed by Leicestershire firm Ashwood Law Wealth Management Ltd.
In his spare time, Simon enjoys fly fishing, gardening, travel and playing Rugby. He also serves as the Fixtures Secretary of Quorn RFC.As a Leicestershire resident, Simon has a strong interest in projects that are focussed on benefitting both the University and local communities.
Mr Richard Lee (BSc Combined Studies, 1977) [2024]
After graduating, Richard qualified as a Chartered Accountant. He joined Deloitte in London as a management consultant. He spent two years in Sydney Australia before moving to Toronto in 1993 with his Canadian wife, Ann Richards, where they still live. He retired from Deloitte in June 2014.
While at Deloitte in Toronto he formed a Consulting alumni programme and then led the Canadian national alumni programme as a partner champion. Since retiring, he continues to play an active role in developing and advising on Deloitte’s national alumni programme.
He is currently an advisor and coach to tech entrepreneurs and executives and works as an independent consultant. He serves on the advisory board of two boutique consulting firms, providing advice on business development and management processes.
When not working, he enjoys travelling – recent trips include Albania, Azerbaijan and Russia – and he is an avid reader of British history.
Mr Michael Aw (Master of Business Administration (DL), 1998) [2024]
Michael is the Founder and Managing Director of 38 Investment PL, investing in properties in several countries. He was also the Co-Founder and Ex-CEO of Mekong Group Pte. Ltd, a business advisory company focusing on the Indo-China market.
Currently based in Singapore, Michael has been a business advisor to a 25 year old Singapore company, helping improve their business framework, quality processes, policies and organisational structure. Michael previously spent 21 years working for Motorola Solution Inc, covering regional sales, channel partnership development and product marketing in Asia.
Michael is also the Honorary Chairman of La Trobe University Alumni Singapore Chapter and Honorary District Councillor, Central Singapore promoting environmental causes.
Ms Jashan Johal (BSc Computing with Management (Industry), 2019) [2024]
Jashan is a recent graduate from the University of Leicester, who is now based in London UK, as a Cloud Solution Architect on Microsoft's Azure Cloud. Her interests include empowering younger generations into STEM based roles, mindfulness and wellbeing practices in the tech intense world.
Throughout her time at the University, Jashan spent a great deal of energy focused on giving back to students and staff. She joined and supported several community-led groups such as Women in Computer Science and the Sikh Society whilst highlighting the importance of good mental health and mindfulness practices for all.
Dr Kim Holloway (BSc Human/Medical Genetics, 2001; PhD Doctor of Philosophy Human/Medical Genetics, 2005) [2024]
Dr Holloway is a double graduate of the University of Leicester, having received both her bachelor’s (2001) and graduate Ph.D. degrees (2005) from the University of Leicester. Upon graduation she moved to the USA to pursue a postdoctoral position at Cornell University, studying the process of recombination during mammalian meiosis and the effects mutations in those processes can have on fertility. Kim later achieved a faculty position at Cornell University in the department of Biomedical Sciences, before leaving bench science to embark on a career helping others grow and fund their research.
Now in the leadership at Northeastern University, which is headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts, Kim has been heavily involved in developing research related strategy and initiatives for the institution, including growing research at the 14 global campuses.
In her spare time, Kim is heavily invested in volunteer work, particularly involving diversity, equity and inclusion. She has been an active volunteer puppy raiser for Guiding Eyes for the Blind, and taught puppy classes for several years. She hopes to also join the board of trustees for the Carroll Center for the Blind (in process).
She lives with her spouse just outside of Boston with their two rescue cats, Bruce Wayne and Barry Allen.
Archie Robinson (BA Politics and International Relations, 2022) [2024]
Archie Robinson, originally from the Wirral (near Liverpool!), graduated from the University of Leicester in 2022 with a BA in Politics and International Relations. As a keen athlete, Archie was elected as the Students’ Union Sports Executive Officer. His passion for policy and advocacy had shone in this role, and led on to him becoming the Students’ Union President for the academic year 2023/24.
In his role, he is aiming to improve the student experience by raising the profile of student voice, focusing on ensuring campus is culturally inclusive, and tackling the cost of living crisis.
In his spare time, he is a semi-professional Futsal goalkeeper (similar to indoor football!) and the Head of the Futsal programme at the University of Leicester!
