Minor in Politics

Available for students starting in September 2018 or September 2019.

If you choose a Minor in Politics you will study where power lies in political systems and how this affects the organisation of society. You will gain knowledge and understanding of Politics in Britain and Europe, and across a range of debates and issues. You will learn how apply different concepts and theories.

Year 1

In your first year you will be introduced to the core areas that make up the study of Politics, and learn about similarities and differences in the political systems of European countries. Weekly small-group tutorials will provide a space in which to discuss important current issues in more depth, expanding on the themes explored in your lectures.


Year 2

In your second year you will study political parties and the party system in Britain, including both continuity and change in the ideologies of the main political parties, and the rise of smaller parties. You will also learn about the EU as a political system, including relations between the main institutions, democracy and participation, and how it makes policy in a range of areas.


Year 3

In your final year you will be able to choose from several modules in each semester, which will allow you to study specialist topics in greater depth and detail.
