Minor in Italian Language

Available for students starting in September 2018

If you choose a Minor in Italian Language you will study Italian language to the level of proficiency required to use the language professionally.

Year 1

You will study:

  • Either Italian Language (Advanced)
  • Or Italian Language (Beginners) 1 + 2

Year 2

You will study:

  • Either Italian Language Post-Advanced Year 2
  • Or Italian Language Post-Beginners Year 2

Year 3

You will study:

  • Either Final Year Italian Language
  • Or Modern Italian Language (Upper Intermediate) 3/4

Modules shown represent choices available to current students. The range of modules available and the content of any individual module may change in future years.

Entry requirements

You will take the Advanced modules if you have at least grade B in A-level Italian, and the Beginners modules if you don't.


In language work you will be assessed by a variety of means, including spoken and listening tests, reading and writing exercises. There will be a balance of continuous assessment and end of semester assignments or examinations.

Now choose your Major

On a Major/Minor degree you study a core area in depth (your major subject), while also exploring an additional area (in this case Italian Language - Advanced).


Please note that you cannot study a Minor in Italian Language with a Major in:

  • Italian Studies
