Archaeology and Ancient History UCAS Visit Days

Archaeology and Ancient History will hold UCAS Visit Days on these dates for applicants who have received an offer to start at Leicester in 2018:

If you have applied for the Archaeology BA/BSc, the Ancient History BA or the Archaeology and Ancient History BA:

  • Saturday 17 March 2018

If you have applied for the History and Archaeology BA or the Ancient History and History BA:

  • Saturday 24 February 2018

How to book

You will need to log in to our MyStudentRecord system to book your visit day. If you have not already signed up for a MyStudentRecord account, you will need to click on the ‘New User’ button and follow the on-screen instructions to create your password.

If you already have a MyStudentRecord account, you will need to log in using your username and password. Your username is your University of Leicester ID number which you will find on your visit day invite email, on your offer letter or on your application acknowledgement email.

Once you have logged into MyStudentRecord you will need to click on the My Applications tab to book your visit day.

Amending your booking

If you already have a booking and you need to change the information you submitted, change the date or you wish to cancel your booking please log back in to MyStudentRecord and click on the My Applications tab.

If you have already booked your place please visit our travel information page for details on how to get to the University by car and by public transport.


From 9.30am Registration
Please make your way to the ‘Union Square’ in the Students’ Union (Percy Gee Building). You will then be taken to your registration point.

10.30am ‘Welcome to the University of Leicester’ Talk
A short presentation introducing the University of Leicester and our accommodation.

10.45am Department Session

After a talk about your course by one of our academics, applicants will have two taster lectures or a lecture and tour of the department. There will also be a tour of ULAS (University of Leicester Archaeological Services). Depending on your course and which day you visit, lectures may include:

  • Dr Mary Harlow: 'Looking like an Emperor'
  • Dr Rachel Crellin: 'Fighting in the Bronze Age'
  • Dr Jack Lennon: 'What did Romans get up to In February?'
  • Dr Simon James: 'The cutting edge: Roman soldiers in peace and war'
  • Dr Dan Stewart: 'From Text to Icon: the Rosetta Stone and Ancient History'
  • Dr Ellie Mackin-Roberts: 'How History was Taught in Ancient Greece: Herodotos and Oral History'
  • Dr Richard Jones: 'Mitigating floods: an Anglo-Saxon perspective'

Meanwhile your family will have the opportunity to speak with some of our staff and enjoy a talk by one of our academics.

12.15pm Lunch

Join us for a sandwich lunch in the School of Archaeology & Ancient History.

A Taste of Life at Oadby Student Village
Hop on a bus up to our Halls of Residence at Oadby Student Village. There will be buses running every ten minutes from 1.15pm. The last bus will leave campus at 2.45pm and the final bus back to campus will leave Oadby at 3.30pm. You will be able to see the social spaces on offer, an example of a typical student’s room and the facilities at Oadby. 

A Campus Tour 
Join our Student Ambassadors on a walking tour of the main campus. These run between 1.15pm and 3.30pm and take 30-45 minutes. 

3.30pm Visit Day ends.

If you arrive after the Registration period, please make your way in the first instance to the ‘Union Square’ in the Students’ Union (Percy Gee Building) to register, collect your programme and receive further directions.
