Leicester Employability Promise

The Leicester employability promise will enhance and optimise the offer you present to prospective employers – during and after your time at Leicester.

1. Personal and professional development

During your degree you will have the opportunity to experience The Leicester Award; a personal development programme which helps you to identify, develop, reflect upon and articulate your self-awareness and transferable skills from your academic studies and experiences beyond your degree.

You can then undertake your Leicester Award Gold, our career development programme, which will support you with finding work experience and unlock exclusive networks such as our Professional Mentoring Programme.

2. Work experience available to every student

The best way to prepare for work – is work. It is important that you gain work experience on and off campus to prepare yourself for the workplace. Many of our degrees include an optional Year in Industry. Others have placement opportunities or modules which involve working on a real industry project. Our on-campus recruitment agency Unitemps provides part time employment opportunities.

Our annual week-long Festival of Careers is a huge student graduate recruitment event with a wide range of top employers from across many sectors on campus. You can attend the Festival each year of your course to help you find out the opportunities on offer for you to gain work experience and consider your options after University.

3. Personalised guidance and support

Our award-winning Career Development Service provides dedicated personalised support, advice and guidance. It’s not ‘one size fits all’ – it’s the support that you need for your course, your ambitions, your skills. In other words, it’s what’s right for you.

4. Continued support after graduation

When you don that cap and gown, we don’t wave bye-bye and forget about you. After University, the Career Development Service will continue to support you as a graduate in your career, with lifetime access to careers advice and support through appointments and workshops.
