Midlands Teacher and Advisor conference

MSC Teacher and Adviser Conferences are a Medical Schools Council initiative in partnership with medical schools across England. This initiative is funded by Health Education England and has enabled six Midland universities to come together to put together an exciting programme of talks and workshops to ensure you are best able to support aspiring medics and healthcare professionals in your school or college.

Representatives will be available from University of Leicester as well as Aston University, Keele University, University of Birmingham, University of Lincoln and University of Nottingham.

Welcome from University of Leicester and the Medical Schools Council

4.05pm

Supporting students who are interested in a career in medicine or healthcare

This talk will explore what students need to apply for medicine and/or healthcare courses at university so you can best support your students and advise them on their options. This talk will cover entry requirements, admissions tests, values-based recruitment and much more. 

4.40pm - 5.05pm and 5.10pm - 5.35pm

Delegates will be able to choose to attend two of the below talks/workshops: 

Medicine with a Foundation or Gateway Year

Find out more about an alternative route into medical school, which have been designed to support students from under-represented backgrounds who have the potential to thrive in a career in medicine.

Alternative Routes into Medicine

Not all medical students start medical school straight from school. This session will explore the options open to students who have the potential to study medicine but might have missed out on the grades they needed. This talk will explore graduate entry medicine, internal transfer options as well as how universities view A-level re-takes.

What support is available for my students?

Discover some of the initiatives and support available from universities and other organisations to support students who are interesting in applying to medicine and healthcare courses to help them stand out in their personal statements and at interview.

Healthcare Courses at University

Find out how you can support students who are interested in the wide range of alternative careers in healthcare including nursing, midwifery, radiography, operating department practice and physiotherapy.

5.40pm

Q&A with Admission Tutors

This is an opportunity to ask any questions you have to a panel of university admission tutors. Admission tutors will be available from Aston University, Keele University, University of Birmingham, University of Leicester, University of Lincoln and University of Nottingham.
