Doctoral College events

Doctoral College Induction

A short induction for all new doctoral students takes place at the beginning of the Autumn and Winter terms. We provide information about the support and facilities available.

Café Research

A opportunity for researchers to get together and talk about their research in an informal setting. We run this event four times a year and an evening will typically feature three or four speakers from across the University followed by a meal.

Lunchtime Lectures

Offering our researchers the opportunity to present their research to the public.

Lectures are free and take place on Fridays starting at 12.30pm and last no more than 20 minutes.

Images of Research

A pictorial competition for our research staff and students. Entrants create an image that communicates their research, findings and passion for their subject which is put on public display on campus.

Doctoral Inaugural Lectures

Celebrating and showcasing doctoral graduates who are academically outstanding and who can present their work in an engaging and accessible way. A University highlight and a terrific success with both audiences and those taking part.

All lectures are introduced by the Director of the Doctoral College and are followed by a drinks reception.

We look forward to seeing students, staff and members of the public at the 2017-2018 lectures.

3 Minute Thesis

The competition challenges research students to deliver a presentation on their research topic and its significance in just three minutes. Universities across the UK host 3MT competitions and there is a now a final every September.

Festival of Postgraduate Research

The Festival of Postgraduate Research is a key event in the University calendar where we present the impressive and ground-breaking research done by our postgraduate researchers.

50 of our best researchers are selected competitively from our research community. They present their cutting edge research to academics, employers, and the public in the form of a poster.
