Rupert and Babette Evans MA Bursary
A £4,000 maintenance bursary is available due to the generosity of the Evans Bequest, established in honour of two distinguished Leicester historians, Rupert and Babette Evans.
Eligibility
Applicants must have a first-class degree in History or a related discipline, and must be applying to study either full-time or part-time on one of the School’s Master’s programmes from October 2023:
Criteria for selection
Applications for the bursary will be assessed according to the following criteria:
- The quality of the student, including the candidate’s past academic performance, likely future performance, and the relevant skills and experience.
- The suitability of the chosen programme or pathway in light of the candidate’s existing knowledge and skills.
- The coherence and viability of the dissertation proposal, including whether the department can offer appropriate supervision.
- The case for how MA study will support progression to doctoral research.
Application
Applicants must submit a two-page CV together with a one-page statement. In their statement, applicants should explain how their chosen modules and pathways and proposed dissertation topic will prepare them for doctoral study, as well as indicating the possible area of focus for doctoral work. If possible, applicants should also identify the significance of their proposed MA topic and some of the key research questions that they intend to address in the course of the dissertation.
