Students' Union

The Students’ Union is the social hub of the campus. It’s a fully-independent organisation and can help you get to grips with university life. It’s also the perfect place to meet for coffee, volunteer and relax.

At the heart of the Percy Gee Building is the Square – your ‘living room on campus’, the perfect place to relax, unwind and catch-up with your friends. Around it, you’ll find top-class outlets such as Starbucks, the Union Diner and the all-new Union St. Food Market.

Societies and activities

Joining societies is a great way of meeting like-minded people, having fun and trying something new. Leicester has nearly 200 different societies, covering everything from Dodgeball and Knitting to Burlesque and Quidditch! Whatever your interests there’s a society for you.

If you're a creative type why not get stuck into writing for our student magazine, Galaxy Press, or get involved with Galaxy Radio - our student radio society.

If politics is more your thing then there are several opportunities to get elected as a Course Rep or a Union Council member.

Advice and Support

The Student Union can provide information and support on housing, money, safety and education. The Support Unit offers free and impartial advice on all academic issues. If you’re not coping with your studies for whatever reason, come and talk to them. We offer a completely confidential, free and impartial service to all students. They also run Nightline; a student-run listening, support and information service which is open 8pm-8am every night during term time.

O2 Academy

The Courteeners, Steel Panther and, of course, local heroes Kasabian are among the bands that have brought the house down at the O2 Academy Leicester; the world class music venue located within our Students’ Union building. As well as the main stage, there are also two smaller venues which play host to local and up and coming bands. Students are able to get priority tickets for many O2 Academy events.
