You need a Tier 4 visa to study in the UK if you are spending more than six months here and are from outside the European Union or European Economic Area. It can take a long time to get a visa, so apply for one as soon as possible before the start of your course. Find out more about applying for your visa.

Register online

You might look like a student, feel like a student and think like a student, but until you’ve completed online registration, you’re not officially a student of the University of Leicester!

You will get an email when it is time to complete registration. Make sure that you have a digital photo of yourself ready to upload as this is what we'll use on your University ID card. The photo should follow these rules.

A £5 note and some coinsResearch costs and make a budget

Before you arrive you should look at our advice about budgeting and do some research into the cost of living in Leicester.

If you need to apply for a visa, you must show evidence that you have enough money to support yourself and any dependents in the UK (see UK Visas and Immigration Website for details). Please note that the living expenses stated by the UK Visas and Immigration are an absolute minimum for visa application purposes.
