Minor in American Literature and Culture

If you choose a Minor in American Literature and Culture you will study some of the most significant works of 19th and 20th century American literature, as well as American culture more broadly, including the visual culture of Hollywood film and the development of American television.
In your first year you will be immersed in classic works of American literature, cinema and television.
In your second year you will study a range of ethnic American writing published in the second half of the 20th century, including the work of major African American, Hispanic, Asian American, Native American, and Jewish American authors.

In your final year you will study two modules, one in each semester, from a range of options that will allow you to develop your interests and strengths.
Choose two option modules from:
- Seriality: Film, TV and Other Media
- Television Drama
- Forms of American Poetry
- Autobiography and American Literature
- Women in Cinema
- Screen Gothic
- Contemporary American Writing
Modules shown represent choices available to current students. The range of modules available and the content of any individual module may change in future years.
No specific entry requirements
There will be a range of different assessments particular to individual modules, but made up from a mixture of essays, oral portfolios, web blogs, writing logs, group and individual presentations, and examinations.
Now choose your Major
On a Major/Minor degree you study a core area in depth (your major subject), while also exploring an additional area (in this case American Literature and Culture).
Please note that you cannot study a Minor in American Literature and Culture with a Major in Film Studies.
