History

The School of History, Politics and International Relations will hold UCAS Visit Days on these dates for applicants who have received an offer to start at Leicester in 2017:

If you have applied for the History BA or the Major in History:

  • Saturday 11 February 2017
  • Wednesday 15 February 2017
  • Saturday 18 February 2017
  • Saturday 18 March 2017
  • Saturday 8 April 2017

If you have applied for the Contemporary History BA, the History and Politics BA or the History and American Studies BA:

  • Wednesday 22 February 2017
  • Saturday 11 March 2017

If you have an offer for the Archaeology and Ancient History BA or the History and Archaeology BA please see the Archaeology and Ancient History page.

If you have an offer for the English and History BA please see the English page.

If you have any offer for the International Relations and History BA please see the Politics and International Relations page.

If you have applied for two courses in the School of History, you only need to attend one visit date.

How to Book

You will need to log in to our MyStudentRecord system to book your visit day. If you have not already signed up for a MyStudentRecord account, you will need to click on the ‘New User’ button and follow the on-screen instructions to create your password.

If you already have a MyStudentRecord account, you will need to log in using your username and password. Your username is your University of Leicester ID number which you will find on your visit day invite email, on your offer letter or on your application acknowledgement email.

Once you have logged into MyStudentRecord you will need to click on the My Applications tab to book your visit day.

Amending Your Booking

If you already have a booking and you need to change the information you submitted, change the date or you wish to cancel your booking please log back in to MyStudentRecord and click on the My Applications tab.

If you have already booked your place please visit our travel information page for details on how to get to the University by car and by public transport.

Programmes

The programme for your Visit Day will depend on whether you visit us on a Wednesday or a Saturday.

Wednesday Programme

9.15am Registration
Please register at 'The Square' in the Students' Union (campus map) and collect your programme for the day. (If you arrive after 10.00am, you should still go to 'The Square'.)

10.00am Welcome to the University of Leicester
This will include a short presentation introducing the University of Leicester.

10.15am Campus Tour or Tour of City Living accommodation
You will be given the choice of either a tour of the main campus or a walking tour to see the City Living student accommodation. Both tours are given by our Student Ambassadors.

11.00am Visit to Oadby Student Village accommodation
This visit will take you to the main Halls of Residence at the Oadby Student Village, a 15-minute bus ride from the main campus, and you will be able to view the social facilities and a typical student room. There is also a drop-in talk on student life taking place which you may wish to attend. The trip lasts about one and half hours.

12.30pm Lunch and Department Visit
Lunch will be provided by the department.  Following lunch, you will have the opportunity to find out more about your chosen degree course, listen to a taster lecture (see schedule below), experience a taster seminar and chat with our current students, the Admissions tutor and other staff.

3.30pm Visit Day ends

2.45pm Plenary 'Thank you for visiting' session
This will include a short presentation about the University of Leicester and give staff the opportunity to thank you for visiting.

  • Saturday 8 April, Dr Stan Neal, 'The History Wars: Genocide in the Australian Outback?'
