Support and wellbeing
The Student Counselling Service provides free, confidential counselling sessions for students for a variety of reasons both academic and personal. Some just come once, to talk over something that is troubling them. Others may wish to see a counsellor regularly for a period of time, or explore issues together with others in a group.
The Student Welfare Service provides wide-ranging practical information and guidance for all students. You can ask them about anything from visas to financial difficulties or housing.
The Students' Union isn't just the home of the bars, shops and societies. Your Union is there to support you throughout your time at University. The Education Unit is one of the key services the Union provides. They offer free and impartial advice on all academic issues. Nightline is a student-run helpline that operates between 8.00pm and 8.00am to provide confidential emotional support. The Union has also organised discounted taxi rates for students to make sure you get home safely.
The AccessAbility Centre offers a range of services to all students who have specific learning difficulties, such as dyslexia, disabilities or long-term conditions, including mental health, which have a substantial day to day impact on their studies.
This confidential service offers one-to-one and group support to students managing mental health issues. The aim of the service is to support students to manage their mental wellbeing and to assist students to lessen the impact these issues might have on their studies.
