The Achilles tendon is critical for normal day to day activities like walking. Using ultrasound tissue characterisation it is possible to scan the Achilles tendon and quantify the ultrastructure, identifying healthy tissue (Green and Blue) and diseased areas (Red and Black). This essentially tells us how healthy the tendon is and we believe this will allow us to identify people at high risk of rupturing their Achilles tendon. Ultimately we hope to use this information to prevent ruptures.
