Miriam Haughton at the British Academy
Miriam Haughton is director of Sex Workers Association of Jamaica and collaborated on the project Revisiting Child Sex Tourism: Rethinking Business Responses. We found that ‘sex trafficking’ was not the problem rather laws criminalizing sex work and homosexuality made people vulnerable to violence from the public and police as well as clients. Only Miriam was given as visa to attend the British Academy launch. The academy was full of portraits of white men and women of power and influence. I like this photo of Miriam, a proud Jamaican sex worker challenging those power relations and the stigma of her profession.
