In the Midst of Life we are Death
Colin Hyde (Centre for Urban History) and Elizabeth Blood (History at Leicester)
Elizabeth Blood’s PhD subject is local First World War memorials and how they have been altered – and she also has an interest in the history of the imagery of death and mourning. This extends to local memorials, monuments and headstones and, particularly, the wonderful carved Swithland slate headstones that are associated with Leicestershire. The photo shows Liz squeezing in between tight rows of headstones at Market Harborough to record the fine detail of the carving on the headstones.
