Too Many Stops

Anna Zsubori Too Many Stops

This image of a road was taken in the run-up to Hungary’s 2018 elections. It depicts a bus-STOP surrounded by some STOP-signs and displaying three STOP (the ‛immigrants’) posters, with a smiling picture of Viktor Orbán PM, the person who will STOP the ‛immigrants’, visible on the other side of the street. Although the intended focus of my interviews was different – how Hungarian children use Disney Princesses to understand identity –, the informants themselves raised the topic of propaganda, which turned out to be an important element in my research, as it has become a crucial part of Hungary’s cultural landscape.
