Profile

 

I am an Associate Professor in Medical Education based at the Medical School and a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. I work within a variety of roles, which include teaching, module leadership, assessment, academic support and supporting new educators.

I originally trained as a clinical doctor (qualified 2007) but have worked full-time in medical education since 2012.

Research

 

Scholarly interests include:

  • clinical anatomy of the head and neck;
  • applying science of learning principles to teaching & learning;
  • academic support;
  • and technology in teaching.

Supervision

 

Supervise students completing their MSc in Clinical Education dissertation

Teaching

 

I teach across several Year 1 and 2 modules of the A100 MBChB programme and am module lead for the Applied Head and Neck Anatomy. I also teach across other programmes at the University, including the A199 MBChB with Foundation Year programme and the MSc Midwifery with Leadership. 

I lead the Year 2 Practical Assessment for integrated anatomy and have a particular interest in how anatomy is assessed in Undergraduate medical education. I am an Academic Support Tutor providing one-to-one meetings with students in Year 1 & 2 of the MBChB programme helping them develop and optimise their learning strategies: I lead on several induction activities to help students prepare for medical school study.

I lead on two modules of the Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education, which run within the larger MSc in Clinical Education Programme and supervise students completing their MSc dissertation.

  • Creator & co-host of The HippoCampus podcast: episodes provide tips and insights to help others optimise their learning at medical school
  • Run the AnatoBite YouTube channel: create and share short tutorials on applied head and neck anatomy
