Dr Lecchini-Visintini obtained the Laurea (5-year degree) in Information Engineering (1997) and a PhD in Automatic Control (2001) respectively from the University of Pavia and the University of Brescia in Italy. He was a post-doc researcher at the Université Catholique de Louvain Belgium (2001 - 2003) and a Research Associate in the Control Group at the University of Cambridge (2003- 2006). He also held visiting appointments at the Australian National University Canberra in November 2002 and in August 2005.

Dr Lecchini-Visintini is currently a member of the editorial boards of the Int. Journal of Control. In the past he has also been an editor of the Int. J. of Adaptive Control and Signal Processing and of the European Control Conference.
