Module code: TS3003
This module is taught via a combination of practical lectures and workshops, where you will work your way up to a C1/C2 level, understanding and working with a wide range of written registers drawn from a variety of complex sources such as; interviews and conversations, internet and news articles, as well as other demanding long texts. Ample opportunities will be provided for you to practice translating semi-specialised texts related to the following domains: science, social science and law. Non-assessed formative tasks, including directed reading tasks and translation assignments, are integrated into the syllabus and you will be encouraged to discuss your translations with your classmates, sharing good translation practice and participate in discussions and tasks outside the scheduled workshops.
You will also produce detailed, well-structured texts on complex subjects and translate a range of text types from your studied language fluently and accurately. Finally, you will be capable of holding sustained and fluent discussions with native speakers at a C1/C2 level, as well as take part in debates and prepare and give oral presentations on specialist subjects.
