Comics Across Cultures: Transformations and Translations in Popular Culture

On successful completion of the module students should be able to demonstrate a detailed knowledge of the importance of comic art in popular culture across cultures. They will be able to assess how comic art has been used as a mode of communication for political and social critique and discuss how comic art is transformed across cultures. Students will express their ideas in coherently structured essays and presentations and respond to questions and responses from the group.
Teaching and Learning Methods
Weekly seminars each structured differently, including introductory lectures, round-table seminars and student led presentations based on individual and group research.
Two coursework essays of 1,500 - 2,000 words each (80%)
Seminar presentation (20%)
No set texts. Readings will be prescribed in line with the requirements of the lectures/seminars.
