Conference Interpreting 2

Module code: ML3002

Module co-ordinator: Dr Claire Yi-Yi Shih

Intended Learning Outcomes

By the end of this module, students should be able to:

  • Perform simultaneous interpreting on a range of semi-specialised topics into and out of English
  • Select and evaluate relevant background information as preparation for the interpreting assignment
  • Compile bilingual glossary as preparation for the interpreting assignment

Teaching and Learning Methods

This module will be taught in weekly workshops using the interpreting booths where applicable. It is designed to further enhance students simultaneous interpreting skills. They will receive formative feedback on their interpreting performances in the workshops. They will be encouraged to make use of the many resources available on the internet to practise between classes, and mock conferences will be arranged as part of the preparation for the assessment.

Assessment Methods

Students' achievements in this module will be assessed through two simultaneous interpreting tasks, each lasting no more than 15 minutes and each having been prepared for through the portfolio of glossary and background information that they will submit on the day.
