Key Issues in Intercultural Communication

Module Aims

Successful completion of this module will enable students to demonstrate knowledge of the dynamics of intercultural communication and its significance in a globalising world. They will learn how to adapt a variety of communicational modes to function across cultures as well as studying the ethical issues in the field of intercultural communication. The module will also provide them with the key skills of transferable group work and project management.

Teaching and Learning Methods

  • Weekly lectures and follow up seminars involving discussion of guided reading
  • Private study comprising guided reading and preparation associated with classes; student self-directed reading and production of assessed work
  • As well as selected readings; video, audio and other materials are used for illustration.

Assessment Methods

  • 2,000 word essay (75%)
  • Assessed presentation (25%)
