Regulation of Financial Markets
Module code: LW7202
Module co-ordinator: Mark Hsiao
The module intends to provide an introduction to the dynamic and rapidly evolving area of financial markets and financial regulation, and will provoke critical thinking into the rationales and efficacy of financial regulation, both with respect to the UK and EU, as well as on an international level, particularly in the aftermath of the recent financial crisis. It will also examine the current scope of regulation of financial services, products and markets, having both general and jurisdiction-specific emphasis. The mobility of capital across financial markets has caused financial markets to be linked across the globe, and there are internationally common approaches and standards in financial regulation. These will be linked with broader themes including the issues of coordinated supervision, international convergence and regulatory competition.
