In this module, you'll learn about the thematic, narrative, and stylistic features of film associated with a range of European cinematic movements. We'll consider the cultural, social, and historical contexts of these texts and draw comparisons and contrasts between them.

Set films may include:

  • French: Harry, un ami qui vous veut du bien (dir. Dominik Moll, 2000)
  • Italian: Ossessione (dir. Luchino Visconti, 1942)
  • Spanish: La Madre Muerta (dir. Juanma Bajo Ulloa, 1993)

Learning

  • 4 hours of lectures
  • 6 hours of seminars
  • 90 hours of guided independent study

Assessment

  • Essay, 2,000-2,500 words (100%)
