Module Overview

At the end of this module students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate an awareness of the development of Italian cinema from its origin to the contemporary period and the relationship between cinematic representations and social and historical change
  • Develop the necessary analytical skills to analyse cinematic works and texts and to place them in their historical and cultural context
  • Work individually and in groups and give presentations based on personal research and the critical appraisal of sources


  • 10 hours of lectures
  • 10 hours of seminars
  • 180 hours of guided independent study


  • Essay, 2,500 words (50%)
  • Exam, 2 hours (50%)
