Module Overview

Students will visit works of art and architecture from antiquity to the present in Rome, Siena and Florence. They will develop a range of transferable skills:

  • Visual analysis
  • Critical evaluation
  • Oral presentation and debate
  • Organisational skills
  • Able to work in groups
  • The field trip takes place during the Easter vacation and lasts three weeks. Students will be accompanied by Dr Thomas Frangenberg.

Intended Learning Outcomes

By the end of this second year module students should be able to:

  • Recognise, describe and discuss some key works of art and architecture from Antiquity to the present in Rome, Siena and Florence on the basis of first-hand experience of them
  • Contribute to oral discussion in front of works of art and architecture
  • Visually analyse and critically evaluate different works in a written assessment
  • Work as a member of a closely-structured group

Teaching and Learning Methods

Lectures and discussions in front of the art works.

Assessment Methods

  • Two hour examination at the end of the semester (100%)
