The Biosphere in the Earth System

Module code: GY3437

In this module, we consider how land vegetation is coupled to the earth system through processes associated with the water and carbon cycles and contemporary climate conditions. Furthermore, we explore how vegetation adapts in local environments based on plant ecophysical perspectives (how, for example, leaves adapt to light environments, or roots to water environments). This understanding is then used to explore ideas about feedbacks between vegetation and other parts of the Earth system at different spatial and temporal scales (e.g. hydrological feedbacks in the Amazon basin).
