Introduction to French Linguistics

In this module, we'll study the sound inventory of standard French, the formation of words, the relation between form and meaning, the importance of the context of the speech act, and syntactic constructions. We'll also consider the evolution and structure of the French language and its varieties, the linguistic diversity to be found in metropolitan France, and the sociohistorical factors involved in establishing a standard national language.
