Core Skills for Modern Language Students

This module will help you develop the core skills needed to study modern languages at University. It will cover key grammatical terms as well as study skills, including developing an academic writing style, finding library resources, and referencing and producing bibliographies. It will also provide crucial guidance on how to avoid plagiarism in your essays and assessed work.


The module is delivered mainly as an online resource that you will access and complete at your own convenience. You will work through online diagnostic tests to discover your own strengths and weaknesses and will then be provided with online lectures and exercises designed to help you improve essential skills. The course also includes fortnightly face-to-face workshops.
