In this module you will study a range of Middle English texts  and forms of writing (c.1200-1500), expanding on the material you studied in earlier modules to get a fuller sense of the period and its culture in all of its generic and regional variety. You will study romances of both the courtly and popular varieties, devotional writing in the form of lyrics and handbooks, drama originating from the medieval cities and poetry from the schools. By studying this wide selection of material, you will come to appreciate the full complexity and vitality of the period.
