Module code: ED7042

Module co-ordinator: Dr Jim Askham

In this module you will explore key aspects of contemporary English Language Teaching methodology and the main principles underpinning a wide range of approaches and techniques for the teaching of English as a foreign or second language. You will have frequent opportunities to relate the main module content to your own professional context and educational experiences, with seminars organised around a range of stimulating discussion tasks.

We will examine ley concepts and terminology used in applied linguistics and TESOL for describing the teaching process. We will look at developments and controversies in language teaching, including debates about communicative language teaching in different cultural contexts, task-based learning and teaching and the use of corpora.
